The Izard County Sheriff’s Office also reports the arrest of a man on drug charges.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed on Friday, Officers Tyler Webb and Sean Tomlinson with the Izard County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for obstruction of view due to a flag hanging from the rearview mirror and multiple items on the dash of the vehicle that were visibly obstructing the view of the driver.

Officers found 37-year-old Juan Negrete-Amaro and a passenger he claimed to be his younger brother inside the vehicle.

Upon asking Amaro for his license, he showed a license from Mexico but said he did not have a valid US license.

An officer stated that Amaro began to show nervousness while they were speaking with him.

He was asked to exit the vehicle, and Deputy Tomlinson observed open alcohol containers inside the vehicle.

Amaro was asked if anything was illegal inside the vehicle, replied there wasn’t, and granted officers permission to search.

While searching the car, Deputy Tomlinson discovered a flashlight that looked to be taken apart.

While inspecting the flashlight, Tomlinson found a one-dollar bill folded up with a white crystalline substance inside, suspected to be methamphetamine.

When asked about the discovery, Amaro confessed he was an addict.

He was then detained.

At a later time, the drugs produced a positive test for methamphetamine.

He is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

His bond was set at $5,000.
