A Baxter County Deputy was injured on Friday when he attempted to take a Gamaliel man into custody.
According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, 32-year-old Joshua Mannella was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on Feb. 11 on multiple charges after he was arrested when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call.
On Feb. 11, around 4:30 pm, deputies were dispatched to an address on Highway 101 for a disturbance involving an unruly male.
Deputies had responded to the same address in the past multiple times for disturbance-type calls.
When Deputy Justin Haight arrived, he observed a man standing outside the residence.
When the man saw the Deputy, he jumped inside a red car and refused to speak.
The man was identified as Mannella.
Deputy Haight made contact with the female caller, who was reported to be the man’s mother.
She told authorities that he was acting out of control and was possibly under the influence of methamphetamine.
She also stated that he had threatened to harm her with a piece of broken furniture and had caused damage inside the residence.
Mannella was talked out of the car by the Deputies and spoke about what happened.
After finding damage inside the home, Mannella was placed under arrest.
At that point, Mannella fled back to the vehicle and locked the doors.
Authorities ordered him to come out, but he continued to refuse.
After several warnings to exit, Deputies broke the car’s glass and attempted to remove him.
Mannella resisted and struggled with deputies, and during the altercation, Deputy Haight sustained a laceration on his hand from the broken glass.
The Deputy was treated on the scene but was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
Mannella complained of possible glass in his eyes but refused medical treatment.
He was booked on charges of felony aggravated assault on a family or household member, felony second-degree battery, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor first-degree criminal mischief, misdemeanor fleeing, and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
His bond was set at $25,000 and will be in the county’s Circuit Court later this month.
