Arkansas lawmakers have given initial approval to a $6 billion state budget that will fund the state this upcoming year.

Both the House and Senate approved identical versions of the bill, and final votes are expected before Wednesday morning before lawmakers recess the fiscal session for 2022.

The 100 member House passed the budget 95-1, and the Senate passed unanimously.

According to the Associated Press, The bill calls for a nearly 3% increase in state spending, slightly less than the 3.3% increase Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson called for earlier this year. Most of the spending increases go toward the state’s public schools and the Department of Human Services.
