A man was arrested on multiple firearm charges in Izard County.

According to court documents filed on Thursday, on March 16, the Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a dispute between two individuals that were going through a divorce that were having a disagreement over civil property.

58-year-old David Melton contacted the Sheriff’s Office numerous times throughout the day and spoke to Deputy Evan Jones and Sergeant Steve Davidson.

While speaking with Deputy Jones, Melton made threats of serious bodily harm toward the other individual involved in the dispute and stated that he was going to get his shotgun and retrieve his property and that “people were going to get hurt” if anyone tried to stop him.

Deputy Jones spoke to the other individual involved in the dispute.

She played a voicemail for the deputy that she had received from Melton that involved multiple obscenities and threats toward her.

While talking to Sgt. Davidson, over the phone, Melton continued making threats involving a firearm and stated, “everyone is going to die” if his property was not returned.

Melton is a convicted felony of violent crimes and is currently out on bond from Izard Counties Circuit Court with pending charges involving a firearm from 2021.

A search warrant was obtained on March 16 for a residence in Mt. Pleasant that Melton was known to be at.

While executing the warrant, investigators located seven firearms, four of which were shotguns that Melton had access to.

All seven of the firearms were seized by the Sheriff’s Office.

He is charged with seven counts of felony firearm possession by certain persons and felony first-degree terroristic threatening.

He is being held in the Izard County Detention Center on no bond.
