A disturbance at the Sharp County Detention Center left multiple inmates with charges.
According to court documents filed on Wednesday, a deputy was working his jailer shift and noticed the sound of something slamming on the floor in the back hallway.
He noticed something being thrown from the C-pod of inmates to Inmate 68’s door.
Once the Deputy arrived at the door, he noted he immediately smelled something like paper burning.
The deputy conducted a fast search and recovered what was being sent to the inmate’s door.
The items include a string, a small booklet, and a lithium battery used in most communication devices.
The battery was found on inmate 27-year-old Aaron Riviere.
After reviewing camera footage, it revealed Riviere was rolling a cigarette and using the battery to light it.
He is charged with two felony counts for furnishing, possessing, using, or delivering prohibited articles and misdemeanor possessing an instrument of crime.
Additional documents state that while reviewing camera footage, Deputy Carpenter noticed 27-year-old Inmate Zach Arnold retrieve a sock from 32-year-old Inmate Tyler French believed to be holding a lithium battery.
A few moments later, Arnold and French can be seen passing the sock and a booklet to Riviere.
A later search of the inmate’s space revealed the lithium battery came from a City Teleicoin tablet.
Footage shows French taking the tablet to the bathroom area and leaving the tablet there until later that day.
Arnold and French face charges of felony furnishing, possessing, using, or delivering prohibited articles, and misdemeanor possessing an instrument of crime.
