Missouri lawmakers are considering how to help churches, charities and nonprofit organizations weed out predatory individuals from their staff and volunteers.
Representative Doug Richeysponsors a House bill that could protect organizations from civil liability if they choose to disclose incidents of sexual misconduct about the former staff.
The bill would apply when organizations are conducting reference checks on new employees or volunteers. Richey, a pastor, said in a Wednesday hearing that predators know churches and charities are hungry for volunteers and exploit the vulnerable people within.
