Senate committee considers bill to rename Jefferson City bridge after Sen. Roy Blunt

A Senate committee considered a bill Tuesday (today) that would’ve named the Interstate-70 Rocheport Bridge, the “Senator Roy D. Blunt Bridge.” Instead, Senate Majority Leader Caleb Rowden proposed the Jefferson City Bridge, also called the Missouri River Bridge, be named after the Republican US Senator in honor of his service to the state. Rowden says he changed his bill to name the Jefferson City Bridge instead of the Rocheport Bridge after discovering a petition to rename the bridge in memory of a Missouri veteran.

Rowden’s bill would have the Missouri Department of Transportation put signs up with the bridge’s new name that’d be paid for by private donations. Blunt will retire when his term ends next year.
