The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and Mammoth Spring Police Department responded to the Cold Spring Curve Spring River Access on Tuesday evening at approximately 5:15 pm for reports of a submerged vehicle.

Vehicle recovered at Spring River access near Mammoth Spring, investigation underway
When authorities arrived on the scene, a vehicle was found submerged in the Spring River.
According to Fulton County Chief Deputy Jake Smith, a body was located inside the vehicle, but he could not comment on how long it had been there.
Chief Smith said the body was of an “unusual nature” and is being sent to the state crime lab for an official cause of death and to identify the subject.
The Arkansas State Police are assisting in the investigation.

On April 19, 2022, at approximately 4:30pm, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a submerged vehicle at the Cold Springs access in Mammoth Spring.
Deputies went to the scene and confirmed the report.
The Mammoth Spring fire department brought a rescue boat and marked the location of the vehicle.
A diver was called to check the submerged vehicle.
The diver confirmed there was a body inside.
The vehicle was towed from the water, where Investigator William Fawcett began to further investigate.
Chief Deputy Jake Smith contacted ArkansasState Police (ASP) and notified them of the situation. ASP offered to assist with further investigation as needed.
The body was taken by the Fulton County Coroner and submitted to the Medical Examiner’s office for positive identification and cause of death.
The vehicle was taken to the Fulton County Sheriff’s office for further investigation.
Due to some anomalies, the case is being treated as a suspicious death, but foul play is not suspected at this time.
