The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people on drug charges.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, on April 29, authorities received an anonymous call regarding suspicious activity at the Road Side Park on North Highway 5.

Deputy Sam Evans and Corporal James Nelson responded to investigate the call.

The caller advised there were two subjects possibly under the influence of narcotics, and they were driving a white Dodge truck.

Deputies made contact with two subjects, identified to be 31-year-old Dean Gower of Ava, MO, and 27-year-old Taylor Welch of Ava.

Both exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

A consent search of the vehicle resulted in locating a container with a green and white metal pipe, a black metal grinder containing a green leafy substance, and a glass multi-colored pipe containing a burnt leafy substance, which was consistent with marijuana.

Also seized from the vehicle included a black glasses case under the driver’s seat, which contained six syringes, and two of the six appeared to be used and had blood and another liquid in them.

A homemade smoking device containing a crystalline substance was also found. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Both subjects were then taken to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, where they were booked on 24-hour holds.

Welch had seven prior drug-related offenses and was currently on probation for possession of a controlled substance.

Gower also had two drug-related offenses on her record.

A warrant was later issued for both subjects for possession of a controlled substance.

Their bond was set at $1,500 cash only with twice-weekly drug testing and a 7 am to 7 pm curfew.

Since that time, both have posted bond.
