The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a man on theft charges.

According to court documents filed on Wednesday, on April 19, a victim reported his car as stolen to authorities.

The victim described the vehicle as a 2005 Toyota 4-Runner.

He said it had been stolen between 8:30 the previous evening and when he reported the vehicle stolen.

Two different civilians said they saw a man matching the description of a suspect.

On April 24, the vehicle was recovered in Baxter County near a bridge in Gamaliel, AR, just south of Bakersfield, MO.

The vehicle was located by Fulton and Baxter County authorities but had been set on fire and left near the roadway.

On May 9, investigators spoke with a female that wanted to remain anonymous.

She said the guy related to the case they were looking for was 43-year-old Clarence Mason.

The female said that she had heard that the vehicle had been stolen and asked Mason that day if he had “gotten a new ride.”

He responded that he stole it because he was walking and it was cold.

She said Mason told her that he walked up to the residence, looked in the vehicle, and the keys were inside.

He then got in it and took off.

She said he told her that another woman he was staying with followed him south of Bakersfield and they dumped the vehicle.

Mason is charged with felony theft of property totaling more than $5,000 but less than $25,000. The charges also noted he was a habitual offender.

His bond was set at $20,000.
