The Willow Springs Police Department is investigating a shooting involving a child.
Authorities started an investigation after Willow Springs School Resource Officer Glen Moore gave information to police regarding a possible shooting.
Police began interviewing those involved in the situation.
A female told authorities that her 13-year-old brother had been shot in the leg by their mother’s boyfriend in April.
The female said it happened when the boyfriend thought police were coming inside their home. The boyfriend was in the same room as the child and shot the juvenile in the leg.
Medical professionals did not treat the boy for the gunshot wound, but rather his mother removed the bullet and treated his leg.
The boyfriend will face charges of first-degree assault, armed criminal action, endangering a child’s wellbeing, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
He is being held in the Howell County Detention Center.
The mother will face charges of endangering a child’s wellbeing and abuse and neglect of a child.
