The Texas County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on domestic assault charges.

On May 29, Deputies were dispatched to assist the Licking Police Department with a domestic disturbance on Maple Ave.

After an investigation, it was determined an assault had occurred on Hartville Road south of Licking city limits.

A female victim stated she was traveling on Hartville Road with a male passenger identified as 31-year-old Baltazar Ruiz.

The female said she stopped the vehicle and requested Ruiz to exit the vehicle.

Ruiz then exited, pointed a handgun at the female victim, and threatened to kill her.

Ruiz then pointed the gun into the air and fired a shot.

He then pulled the female from the vehicle and began punching her.

She stated that he then put her back into the vehicle and choked her to the point that she lost consciousness.

The victim was then able to contact authorities and receive help.

A search of the vehicle revealed a .45 caliber handgun.

Ruiz was a felon and was on probation for assault.

He was then taken into custody and transported to the Texas County Jail.

He’ll face charges of first-degree domestic assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon.

He was given no bond.
