On Monday the murder trial for Rebecca Rudd got underway in Springfield. Rudd is accused of first-degree murder in the death of her daughter 16-year-old Savannah Leckie in Ozark County, then burning her body at the home in Theodosia. In a recording of Rudd, she said the girl killed herself, and she then wrapped her in a blanket and put her body on the coals> Rudd said she spent almost all night putting everything on the fire, including Leckie’s computer bag, because nobody would believe that she left without it. Rudd said she then reported her daughter missing. For weeks Ruud says she tried to keep the ruse of her daughter’s disappearance going. The trial is expected to last until Wednesday.
