West Plains, Mo. – The First Annual West Plains Folds of Honor Golf Tournament successfully raised more than $20,000 in educational scholarships to benefit the spouses and children of fallen or disabled military veterans.  The event was held at the West Plains Country Club on June 24, 2022, with 28, three-person teams participating.

Folds of Honor is a nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of military members who have fallen in action or been disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces.  Since the program was founded by Lt. Col. Dan Rooney in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded nearly 35,000 educational scholarships totaling more than $160 Million in educational impact.  The West Plains Folds of Honor Golf Tournament was a scholarship fundraiser to benefit scholarship recipients in southern Missouri.

In the 2021-2022 school year, eight scholarships totaling $31,825 were awarded by Folds of Honor to families in the counties of Howell, Texas, Shannon, Ozark, Oregon, Wright, and Douglas.  The more than $20,000 raised by this year’s tournament will provide four, $5,000 educational scholarships to deserving families in these counties.

“Thanks to the overwhelming support of our sponsors and community, we were able to exceed our original fundraising goal by over $5,000. This surplus allows us to present an additional scholarship, bringing the total to four,” said Tournament Co-Chair, David M. Gohn.  “My Co-Chairmen, Greg Beykirch and Dave Thomas, and I were honored to have had the opportunity to bring awareness to this very worthy cause and we have already begun to plan for next year’s event.”
