Independence County authorities are reporting the arrest of a man on felony charges after he fled into a wooded area. 59-year-old Ricky Dean Altom was arrested after deputies went to his residence to serve an arrest warrant and he fled into the woods. A short time later he was apprehended and a plastic baggie containing meth was found in his backyard, two guns were also found. Altom is charged with three felonies: being a previously convicted felon in possession of firearms, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, and possession of meth. He is also being charged under the habitual offender law. His bond was set at $50,000.
