The Thayer RII school district and the Thayer Police Department would like to remind citizens traveling around the school campus during school drop off and school picks up hours, to stay vigilant and keep their eyes on the road. Due to multiple situations of our school resource officer and students having almost been struck by moving vehicles, Thayer Police Department will be patrolling the area and enforcing any violations that occur for the foreseeable future. The Thayer RII school resource officer is directing traffic on a daily basis and sees the dangers distracted drivers and distracted pedestrians pose firsthand, and we would like the public to remain aware of their surroundings while driving and while on foot, in an effort to keep all pedestrians and other motorists safe. Please see Thayer Municipal Ordinance (315.030) below, as it pertains to the direction of traffic by police officers in the city.
Section 315.030. Obedience To Traffic Control Devices.
The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any traffic control device applicable thereto placed in accordance with the provisions of this Title unless otherwise directed by a traffic or Police Officer, subject to the exceptions granted to the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle in this Title.
