A new report reveals hospitals in Arkansas are having critical staffing challenges for some occupations – and the problem isn’t new, but is getting worse. The Arkansas Hospital Association commissioned the report to advise state lawmakers about the current industry needs across the state. Association President and C-E-O Bo Ryall says there’s been a nursing shortage for a while now, but the pandemic has prompted more healthcare workers to leave the profession due to burnout or to move into other industries.

Ryall says long-term solutions are needed to resolve the healthcare workforce shortage in Arkansas. The report recommends more financial incentives for people training for healthcare careers – from paid internships to tuition assistance and loan forgiveness – and increasing pay for nurse educators.
