On Friday, around 5:45 a.m., the tornado sirens in Melbourne went off. Izard County Dispatch did not set them off and was unable to immediately shut them off. The Melbourne Fire Department and The Office of Emergency Management were contacted. The sirens were shut down manually.
The cause of the activation is being looked into and the sirens will be fixed as soon as possible.
