The Howell County Sheriff’s Office would like to make the community aware of a recent scam being reported. An unknown subject is using a retired employee’s name from the Sheriff’s Office and advising potential victims they have missed two letters of notification for sex offender registration. The unknown subject attempted to gain $1,500 in order to clear a warrant being issued.
The Howell County Sheriff’s Office would like to notify the community; this is a scam and citizens are urged to immediately contact the Sheriff’s office. Furthermore, their office does not accept money over the phone.
