The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department reports a couple of arrests last week.

33-year-old Ethan Smith of Willow Springs was arrested on August 6th after fleeing from a deputy. Smith drove the vehicle in a ditch then finally stopped and surrendered. Smith had an active warrant and was arrested. The arresting deputy then found a small clear baggie in a wallet on the dash of the vehicle that field tested positive for meth.  Smith was transported to the Douglas County Jail on an existing Douglas County Warrant and Driving While Revoked.  Then On August 7th, 2023; the Douglas County Circuit Court issued a warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class D Felony), Operating a Vehicle on a Highway Without Valid License-3rd, and Subsequent Offense (Class E Felony) Bond was set at $1500-00 cash.

46-year-old Jason Ledbetter of West Plains was arrested in Douglas County after deputies were called to suspicious activity reported in the Goodhope area on County Road 432.  Ledbetter was found pushing a motorcycle and ten driving down the road. Ledbetter fled from police at a high rate of speed, he later stopped fleeing on Highway 76. He refused to get off the bike and was assisted by the sheriff. Ledbetter has been charged with  Resisting/Interfering with Arrest for a Felony (Class E Felony), and Operated Vehicle on Highway without a Valid License-3rd and Subsequent Offense (Class E Felony)  Bond was set at $2500-00 cash. Ledbetter had an existing warrant from Howell County for  Failure to Appear-Resisting Arrest Detention Stop By Fleeing Creating a Substantial Risk of Serious Injury/Death to Any Person (Class E Felony)  Bond is set at $5000-00 cash or Corporate Surety.
