On Thursday at 05:53 A.M. dispatch began receiving calls reporting vehicle tampering. In the early morning hours of Thursday, approximately 13-14 vehicles within the city limits of Thayer were tampered with. Officers will be conducting extra patrol in the affected areas, which is primarily a large area of the southern part of town spanning from Chestnut Street to Locust Street, and 2nd Street to 10th Street.
Vehicles are evidently not being locked at night. As a reminder, the police department encourages all residents to adhere to a few simple suggestions in an effort to safeguard your property.
-Lock your vehicles any time they are unattended, especially at night
-Remove any valuables from your vehicle
-Ensure all doors and windows are locked at your residence
-Report any prowlers on your property, or any activity you feel is suspicious to the police department by calling 417-264-3819
