ENID OK—The Missouri State-West Plains Grizzlies improve to 2-1 on the season with a win Monday against New Mexico Military Institute 64-61. The Grizzlies will be back on the court on Friday at Indian Hills Community College in the Iowa/Missouri Challenge.

 

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Khalif Battle scored 21 points as a substitute and Tramon Mark added 16 as No. 14 Arkansas beat Alcorn State 93-59 in an opener Monday night.

Mark and Battle are both in their first season with Arkansas (1-0); Mark transferred from Houston and Battle from Temple.

Trevon Brazile a preseason first-team All-SEC forward, played his first game since tearing his right ACL on Dec. 6. Brazile scored 13 points with six rebounds in his 22 minutes.

Arkansas will host Gardner-Webb on Friday.

 

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Sean East II scored 21 points and Missouri breezed to a 101-79 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a season opener on Monday night.

East sank 7 of 8 shots with two 3-pointers and was 5-for-5 at the free-throw line for the Tigers. Nick Honor and reserve Tamar Bates both scored 18. Bates made 7 of 9 shots, including all three of his 3-pointers. Caleb Grill and Noah Carter added 15 points apiece. Grill had seven rebounds.

The Tigers look to go back-to-back to start their 2023-24 campaign as they host Memphis on Friday night.

 

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Missouri State got a career-high 24 points from Chance Moore and 15 more from Alston Mason, but couldn’t complete a furious last-minute comeback at West Virginia Monday, falling 67-59 in the season opener for both clubs.

Missouri State will be in action at Great Southern Bank Arena next Monday (Nov. 13) to take on regional rival Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.

 

MADISON, Wis. (11/6/23) – Freddy Hicks scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Arkansas State men’s basketball team, but a hot-shooting Wisconsin team claimed a 105-76 win on Monday inside the Kohl Center.

Caleb Fields added 17 points and Dyondre Dominguez dropped 14 points with a game-high eight boards off the bench. The Red Wolves shot 40.7 percent from the floor on 24-of-59 and went 24-for-33 (72.7 percent) at the foul line.

A-State concludes its season-opening road swing on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Bowling Green in the MAC-SBC Challenge.

 

 

 

Women’s College Basketball

The Missouri Lady Tigers open the season with a 72-61 win over Belmont on Monday. Former West Plains Zizzer Ashton Judd was one of four Lady Tigers to score in double figures finishing with 10 points. Mama Dembele and Haley Frank had 15 points each and freshman, Grace Slaughter had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
