The Mammoth Spring Chamber met on Thursday

The Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday. The meeting began with a financial update and updates from the Chamber of Businesses. The Chamber also talked about the Spooktacular which was cancelled this year because of the weather. During the new business portion of the meeting, they talked about the “Hot Rod Christmas Parade” on December 9, at 6 p.m. They went over the lineup and said volunteers are still needed to help with the lineup and judging. They also talked about the recent eclipse meeting and set the date for the next Chamber meeting for December 14, at Stateline. You can view the minutes of the meeting here

  1. Financial Update
    1. Shawna: $11,401.25
    2. with $100 outstanding check for our portion of Eclipse planning
      1. Each chamber (Thayer/Mammoth Spring) contributed $100

  1. Business updates
    1. Jimmy: staying busy, attended international gift show with Whistle Creek/Cane
    2. Shawna: no updates at community first, people still moving into area from all over.
      1. We are now number one in the country for new people moving into the state
    3. Patty & Cindy: no updates
    4. Jeremy: Very busy working on normal projects, 20ft pirate ship for parade
    5. Sara: continuing resolution so Hatchery will not shut down on November 17, Holiday Open House weekend before parade, Saturday, December 2 10a-11a, cookies, drinks, nature ornament craft, visit with Santa
      1. Baking business: nothing new getting ready for another craft fair
      2. Camp Quality (Sara is Executive Director), Annual Holiday Play same day as parade – amazon wish list, email Sara for link to list
    6. Courtney Jenning: will now attend to represent Palace, vaccine season come see Palace to get taken care of
    7. June: still taking toys for ‘Toys for Joy,’ event on December 19 at 6p, accepting new toys until the 18th, at the VFW, 127 families served last year, Salem VFW will be sending their families over here
    8. Dan: next thing is VFW Gun Show December 8-9, Friday 5p.m.-8p.m., Saturday 8a.m.-5p.m., 24 vendors so far, $5 to get in for both days, breakfast available Saturday. January will start up poker tournament.
    9. Trena: medicare open enroll keeping busy, helping community make sure their in the right plandrug plans have changed a lot
    10. Katie: winding down at state park. Last week Art in the Park was a success, no plans for another until it’s warm enough to host outside

 

  1. Old Business
    1. Spooktacular cancelled, not rescheduled.

In past when rescheduled or relocated vendors and businesses upset that it pulled away people from their shop, or not enough residents came out.  We cannot control weather, and at this time don’t have another location, committee for next year tasked with finding a solution (possible schedule earlier and have makeup date on regular weekend?)

    1. Hot Rod Christmas Parade is December 9th at 6pm, lineup starts at 5p.Line up at Mammoth School, in lineup will be Mammoth and Thayer Marching Bands, VFW, local car clubs,
    2. line up on 6th Street by church, big trucks at O’Reilly’s, horses at city park – saddle club, (soon to be Boarderlines Saddle Club)
    3. Decorated entrants will get judged, Jeremy to make awards
      1. Cars get plaques 1st 2nd 3rd
      2. 1 for Best Horse
  • 1 for Best ATV
  1. 1st 2nd 3rd place floats with cash prizes
  1. Chamber pays for bands $100 to come march
  2. Need nominees for Grand Marshall
    1. Trena has 2 nominees currently
    2. Send nominations to Trena –so he/she/they can ride in parade
  3. Santa riding on pirate ship – Jeremy/dan
  4. Volunteers still needed for line-up and judging
    1. Adam and James going to help line-up
    2. 1 person needed on Main Street

  1. 2 judges so far: Dan (Santa) and Sonja, 1 more needed
  1. Trena will go on radio and encourage entrance to parade. There is no entry form or fee, just show up and you’ll get put in line.
    1. We personally invite dignitaries, county officials, emergency services
  2. End will be at Simmons Bank, where crowning will take place
  3. Thayer parade is at 2p.m., West Plains is at 4 p.m. same day
  4. Thayer School Java Cats planning on being here setting up locations on Main Street serving hot cocoa and coffee/ drinks

 

  1. Wednesday’s Eclipse meeting recap
    1. Eclipse Festival planned for Saturday before Eclipse, Thayer school offered schoolgrounds for 4th of July-like event with fireworks, bounce house, live music and vendors including: food trucks, crafters, businesses. Possibility of a car show.  Thayer will run event, Mammoth will need to help
    2. State Park will not be hosting events, but available for parking
    3. Grant money from Thayer for school bus shuttles Thayer got $20,000 for eclipse
    4. Eclipse glasses will be 65 cents apiece, order of 5,000 split btw Thayer/Mammoth, Hazelle is getting us deal on t-shirts
    5. Thayer has 1,500 camping sites, rentals (hotel/motel/Airbnb/ect.) are full in Mammoth Spring. VFW will offer campsites near post, they have 2 porta-potties already.  Anyone considering renting property should look into liability insurance
    6. Alton doing huge event, and West Plains is a 5-day event
    7. No porta-potties left to rent
    8. Cherokee Village airport has 200 fly-ins for eclipse. Airport Thayer, still undecided, not enough tiedowns, potentially closing and setting up for viewing area being considered
    9. Schools will be closed Thayer, Mammoth, Alton, and Couch. Kosh still undecided
    10. Emergency services: 3 officers in Mammoth, 4 in Thayer, only 1 from Fulton County, 2 ambulances, and State patrol going to overlap MO/AR state line

 

  1. Next chamber meeting December 14 anticipated at Stateline
    1. Next big chamber event – April Rabies Clinic – will need to adjust date for Eclipse
    2. More Eclipse discussion/planning
