During the ongoing investigation into the death of Derek Hamilton, the Circuit Court of Fulton County issued arrest warrants for Anna Hamilton and Shawn Cox. On January 19, 2024, in cooperation with Sharp County Sheriff Shane Russell, Fulton County Sheriff Jake Smith took the two into custody. The two were charged with 2nd Degree Murder in the death of Derek Hamilton. Both are being held on a $500,000 bond each.
