A man from Ava has ben indicted on Murder Charges

Tuesday a Douglas County Grand Jury Indicted 28-year-old Howard J. Applegate of Ava for the 2017 murder of Lance Terrill that occurred on Z. Highway in Douglas County.

Applegate was indicted for Murder 1st Degree a Class A Felony, Armed Criminal Action unclassified felony, 3 counts of Unlawful use of a weapon Class B Felonies, 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a child Class D felonies, and Concealing a felony a Class E felony.

At the time of the indictment, Applegate was currently being held in the Douglas County Jail for 2 counts of First-Degree Assault Class A Felonies, Burglary 1st degree Class B Felony, Tampering with Physical Evidence in Felony Prosecution, Stealing with a $50,000 cash-only bond.

This was a result of an investigation conducted by the Douglas and Christian County Sheriff’s Departments. Applegate was on Probation out of Wester County at the time of his arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Sheriff Degase advised this had been a lengthy ongoing investigation for the last 6 years and would like to thank Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole and his investigators as well as Webster County Sheriff Roye Cole and his investigators for their assistance with this investigation throughout the last 6 years.
