On February 12th, 2024, at just before 7 pm, the West Plains Police Department received several reports of a social media post containing information on a possible school threat. The post contained an image, showing a hand holding a firearm, with the caption, this school is not ready for this. This is just a summary of the post. The image with the caption originated from an incident involving an out-of-state school district. The image was found by one of the West Plains Middle School students who took a screenshot of it and sent it out in a group chat. We are still investigating this matter, but we have no reason to believe that the West Plains School District is in any immediate danger. We are grateful for our community’s dedication to the safety of our children. We are also thankful for the West Plains School District’s cooperation in this matter. Information like this should be reported to law enforcement immediately. If we receive any information like this, we will investigate it to the fullest to ensure the safety of our children and community.
