According to West Plains Assistant Fire Chief Chris Sterner, the vacant two-story house at 929 Washington Ave. in West Plains was being renovated when it caught fire, then that fire spread to a neighboring house. Two residents of that house were able to escape but a pet cat wasn’t as fortunate. Both homes are a loss and the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office is investigating the incident to determine a cause.
