Missouri State launches new program

Graduate students entering the workforce need every edge they can get in today’s demanding environment. Missouri State University has launched a new “internship on steroids” program, specifically for grad students to get hands-on learning and work experience. The M-S-U Graduate School’s Associate Provost and Dean Julie Masterson says a paid “assistantship” is a longer-term opportunity, unlike any other internship. She says it offers significantly more time, for both the student and the company that takes them on, to gain benefits.

Currently, five companies offer these assistantships, and Masterson says she’d like to see that number in double digits before the end of the year.
