A Décor company is suing the city of Pocahontas for breach of Contract. New Gifts & Accessories Ltd. Reportedly signed a three-year lease in October with Pocahontas for $50,000 annually for a building. The company then bought the assets from a previous company and hired 8 employees. In November the company says that they were told there was a problem with the lease and they wanted them to pay more rent. The city council then failed to pass a resolution that would have retroactively allowed the Former Mayor to sign the lease and ordered the company to vacate the building. The company has since signed a lease with a different company at an additional cost of $345,000. The city has not yet filed a response in the case.
