Missouri AG dresses down KC Mayor over illegal immigration

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey admonished Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Thursday night for an invite he extended to migrants from New York City and Denver.

Bailey took to Twitter with a public letter for Lucas.

In Bailey’s letter to Lucas, the Attorney General of Missouri said “under the current Administration in Washington, D.C., laws that don’t align with a radically progressive agenda are simply ignored.”

Bailey went on to state that chief among these are laws that prohibit illegal immigration into our country and into the State of Missouri, as he cited the February death of college student Laken Riley as evidence of the dangers of open border policies, saying that Riley’s death was a direct result of “misguided and illegal policy enacted by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.”

The Missouri Attorney General said Lucas’ invitation flies in the face of keeping Missouri safe, pointing out that Mayor Lucas is not ignoring the fact that Riley’s killer had a work permit but is actively encouraging Missouri businesses to become entanged in a fundamentally unlawful program and
exposing them to legal liability in the process.

Kansas City’s recently passed 2024-25 budget allocates $1 million to create new support services for refugees and immigrants.
