The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a swatting incident in Van Buren. The incident stemmed from a call made to a local business Friday around 4 pm falsely reporting a threat to an area school. Upon receiving the call, an investigation was initiated by the Van Buren Police Department, Elsinore Police Department, and the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, who requested assistance from the MSHP. Through collaborative efforts it was determined the threat lacked credibility, identifying it as a swatting incident. To be cautious additional law enforcement was deployed to Carter County Schools. Because of the threat the Winona and Eminence and Mountain View Birch Tree School Districts in nearby Shannon and Howell Counties decided to cancel classes on Monday. The incident is still under investigation.
