
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Cardinals selected shortstop JJ Wetherholt out of West Virginia University with their first-round selection (7th overall) in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft.
Wetherholt, played three seasons for the Mountaineers, slashing .370/.468/.625/1.093 with 29 home runs, 49 doubles, 129 RBI, 148 runs, and a 1:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio with 82 walks in 145 career games.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Kansas City selected Jac Caglianone, a two-way player from Florida. A first baseman and left-handed pitcher, he hit .419 with 35 homers and 72 RBIs for the Gators this year while going 5-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 16 starts, striking out 83 and walking 50 in 73 2/3 innings.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas ace Hagen Smith was selected fifth overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 2024 MLB Draft, becoming the 10th Razorback to be chosen in the first round and the highest-drafted pitcher in program history.
