40-year-old Daniel Mantai was arrested in June.
Tips were received on June 3 and 11, court records show, with 41 files of suspected child pornography reported on the first tip and an additional 40 files reported on the second tip. Authorities say five files believed to be child pornography were distributed to other Kik users.
On June 11, a search warrant was served at Mantai’s home and, when he was questioned after being read his rights, Mantai reportedly admitted he was the owner and controller of the accounts related to the alleged child pornography and further admitted to possessing and distributing child pornography through those accounts.
Mantai faces charges for five felony counts each of first-degree promotion of child pornography and possession of child pornography, repeat offense, or possession of more than 20 pictures, films, or videotapes.
