Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles pushed aside an early error to claim her second Olympic all-around crown at Paris 2024
Biles’ 59.131 total was golden as Brazil’s Rebecca Andrade captured silver in the event, scoring 57.932. American Suni Lee was rounded out the podium (56.465).
All three women have previously graced the Olympic all-around podium, a first.
Biles won her first title eight years ago at Rio 2016. Lee and Andrade finished with gold and silver three years ago at Tokyo 2020.
Swimming
United States swimmer Katie Ledecky just became the most decorated American female Olympian of all time in any sport.
On Thursday, Ledecky and her American teammates took home a silver medal in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay final. Australia won gold and China won bronze.
It marks Ledecky’s 13th Olympic medal, making history as the most-decorated American female Olympian of all time in any sport.
Ledecky surpasses former USA Olympic swimmers Dara Torres, Natalie Coughlin, and Jenny Thompson, who all have 12 Olympic medals, AP reports.
Beach Volleyball
Nothing has been able to stop the United States women’s beach volleyball l tandem of Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Not the rain or lightning that filled the skies around them Thursday night at Eiffel Tower Stadium. Not the 75-minute delay at the most pivotal point in the match, after they had battled back from one set down. And definitely not any of the three teams they played during pool play to open the Games.
Nuss and Kloth are now off to the Round of 16 unblemished following an eventful three-set victory (15-21, 21-16, 15-12) over China’s Xinyi Xia and Chen Xue – a gritty, come-from-behind victory for the young Americans with Lebron James in the stands. (“King James” did indeed wait out the weather.)
The United States leads the medal count with 37, including 9 gold medals, 15 silver and 13 bronze. France is second with 27 medals, China has 24 medals, Australia 18 medals and Japan has 16 medals.
