Your unclaimed property could be on the auction block.

Now through Tuesday, the Missouri State Treasurer’s office is holding an auction at the Oasis Convention Center in Springfield.
In the state of Missouri, banks must hold onto a safety deposit box before they are given to the state treasurer’s office. The state treasurer then attempts to find the owners for another five years before items go on the auction block.

Once an item is sold at auction, the money is put in an account with the original name on the safety deposit box. If they or a family member claim the unclaimed property, they would receive the money from the items sold at auction.

Currently, the office has more than $1 billion worth of unclaimed property for millions of people in the state.
