Basketball

After cruising through their first four games of the 2024 Olympics, the star-studded USA men’s basketball team got a scare from Serbia and three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic in Thursday’s semifinal game, falling behind by as many as 17 points and heading into the final quarter down 13.

Serbia led for more than 35 minutes of a 40-minute game, but the U.S. held the advantage when it counted. The final period belonged to Team USA, which outscored Serbia 32-15 to come back and take the lead for good on a Stephen Curry 3-pointer with 2:24 remaining in the 95-91 victory.

Curry finished with 36 points, Labron James had a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, and Joel Embid also had a nice game finishing with 19 points.

 

The USA plays France on Saturday for the Gold Medal, France beat Germany in the other semi-final 73-69.

Germany and Serbia play for the bronze medal.

 

Track & Field

 

Grant Holloway took down the men’s 110m hurdles final in this year’s Olympics for Team USA.

 

American sprinter Noah Lyles was diagnosed with COVID two days ago, he told NBC in an interview. He then ran the men’s 200m final on Thursday and took the bronze medal.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was nothing short of sensational in taking 400m hurdles gold last night, and with a new world record to boot.

The U.S. won eight of the 15 medals handed out, have two athletes on the podium in four of the events. Here is the success roll call:

  • Women’s long jump: Tara Davis-Woodhall (gold), Jasmine Moore (bronze)
  • Men’s 200m: Kenny Bednarek (silver), Noah Lyles (bronze)
  • Women’s 400m hurdles: Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (gold), Anna Cockrell (silver)
  • Men’s 110m hurdles: Grant Holloway (gold), Daniel Roberts (silver)
