
The chase began in Clay County and reached speeds up to 100 MPH. Pocahontas Police were notified as the chase headed into the area. The Pocahontas PD deployed spike strips and were successful in deflating two tires on the vehicle. The vehicle was then stopped on U.S. 67 by Baltz Lake the driver of the car was a 16-year-old juvenile from Illinois and the passenger was his brother, 20-year-old Justin Martinez-Tapia of Rantoul Illinois. The 16-year-old faces several charges including felony fleeing, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance less than 40 ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, no driver’s license, and no liability insurance. Martinez-Tapia faces four charges including possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance less than 40 ounces, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a fraudulent or altered ID, and permitting an unauthorized person to drive.
