The Thayer City Council met last night for their regular monthly meeting and a big crowd was on hand for this month’s meeting, most of them interested in the recent rumors that the city would be trying to clean up some of the substandard buildings in the city. The meeting began with the regular business then the council heard from Beck Eckman with Thayer Revitalization.
She said that the revitalization of Thayer will take time
The Council then heard from Josh Garrison who went over the ordinance the city has about demolishing the substandard buildings in town. Audio of Garrison reading what a substandard building is according to the ordinance is available here
He also talked about what the ordinance says in regard to repair, vacation, or demolition
The City said that about 65 buildings in the city would need repair or demolition, but the problem with doing this is the cost to the city. They talked about maybe starting with just a few buildings in town and going from there. ECNN has requested a copy of the Ordinance, and we will post it to our website, Facebook, and X pages when we receive it.
The City Council also approved October 14th through the 18th As fall cleanup week. They tabled the employee handbook until next month to make some changes and they set a public hearing for 6:30 pm on October 8th to discuss the rezoning of Elton Botard’s Property on Alton Road.
