Two men were arrested after a traffic stop in Douglas County on Sunday

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department reports the arrest of two men earlier this week after a traffic stop on Highway O. On Sunday, a vehicle was stopped towing a trailer with no tags.  The driver, 54-year-old Matthew Smith of Fordland had a revoked license and had meth and a firearm.  The passenger, 57-year-old Brian Shive of Mountain Grove was arrested as well, both men are convicted felons which prohibits them from possessing firearms.  Warrants were obtained for both subjects for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful use of a weapon (possessing meth and firearms, and Unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.  Smith’s bond was set at $20,000 cash only and Shives was set at $15,000 cash only.

Smith has 33 prior criminal arrests, and Shive has 16 prior criminal arrests.
