On September 17, two teenage boys reported a frightening encounter while bow hunting the previous day in the area of County Road 1300 in West Plains.  The two reported that after returning to their truck around, they saw an unknown man in the rearview mirror holding a gun, who demanded their names and ordered them out of the vehicle with their hands raised. He held them at gunpoint, asked for their IDs, and then, after holstering his gun, threatened them with a knife, insisting they walk to his camper. After being held at the location against their will for a short time, the unknown man’s friend and mother arrived, and the two were allowed to leave.  After reporting the incident to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified 39-year-old William Michael Sanders as the suspect. A search warrant was executed, and A BB gun was located, as well as a large knife. An interview was conducted, resulting in Sanders’ arrest. Sanders faces charges of armed criminal action, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, and unlawful use of a weapon, along with a parole detainer.
