A Kennett Man is found guilty of several felonies in connection to police standoff

In a trial that took place on November 6th and 7th, a Pemiscot County jury found Kennett resident 25-year-old Kenneth Canday guilty of 13 felonies related to an incident on

January 28th. During the incident, Canday and others lured a man into an apartment in Senath before stealing his phone, beating him, cutting him, and burning him.

When police attempted to arrest Canday on January 29th, he barricaded himself inside his home along with two hostages. After a four-hour standoff, negotiators were able to talk him into releasing the hostages.

The felonies that Canday was found guilty of include:
Two counts of first-degree kidnapping
First-degree robbery
Two counts of second-degree assault
Third-degree assault
Five counts of armed criminal action
Unlawful use of a weapon
Resisting arrest

Canday is being held without bail until his sentencing, which is scheduled for January 6, 2025. The prosecuting attorney’s office stated that he is subject to an enhanced sentence range due to his previous felony convictions.
