A Cape Girardeau man was sentenced to six years in prison after a high-speed chase in Wright County

In June of 2024, Jason Jones submitted an Alford plea on Dec. 20, 2024, to second-degree assault. An Alford plea is where the defendant does not admit guilt but admits that there is evidence that would likely lead to a conviction. The state dropped all other charges against Jones and he was sentenced to prison on Jan. 8, 2025. During the chase Jones allegedly attempted to hit a law enforcement officer in a ditch and drove into oncoming traffic at high speeds to evade officers, He eventually abandoned his vehicle west of Mansfield. He fled on foot, but he was soon caught. Law enforcement found drugs, drug paraphernalia, and multiple licenses and credit cards bearing different names in his vehicle after the chase.
