Texas County man sentenced in Federal Court

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A Texas County, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court Tuesday for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and for illegally possessing firearms.

63-year-old Richard D. Sims, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison without parole. The court also ordered Sims to forfeit to the government $480,000, which represents the proceeds of drug trafficking.

On Oct. 31, 2023, Sims pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, three counts of aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine, and one count of being a felon in possession of firearms.

By pleading guilty, Sims admitted that he participated in the conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine from March 9 to July 11, 2022. Sims also admitted to aiding and abetting his wife, co-defendant 53-year-old Billie J. Sims, to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine on three separate occasions.
