KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs are signing defensive lineman Jerry Tillery and bringing back running back Kareem Hunt, who stepped in last season and helped them reach the Super Bowl, two people familiar with the deals told The Associated Press on Friday.

The people, speaking on condition of anonymity because neither deal had been announced, said that Tillery and Hunt had agreed to one-year contracts. The pair of veterans help to address two glaring holes in the Kansas City depth chart.

Patrick Mahomes has a new backup quarterback.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs and Gardner Minshew reached an agreement on a one-year deal. Minshew, a 28-year-old who has started 42 career games in a six-year NFL career, joins the Chiefs following a season with the Las Vegas Raiders.
