High Winds have been the cause of several wildfires in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. On Wednesday, fires were reported in Howell, Oregon, Douglas, and Texas Counties in Missouri and in Sharp, Lawrence, and Izard counties in Arkansas. Residents in Ozark Acres had to be evacuated on Wednesday. Fire departments from Ozark Acres, Hardy, and Williford battle the blaze. Fire Departments from Ozark Acres, Martin Creek, Williford, Arkansas Forestry, Hardy and assistance from Ravenden also battle a fire in the Bradford Cemetery area in Sharp County. A Wildfire was also reported on Lawrence 106 that also endangered structures and was said to have both sides of the road in flames. Imboden and a wildland fire crew from Walnut Ridge Fire Department also responded to assist. Lawrence County, fires forced closures along U.S. 67 near the 124-mile marker near the Fulbright community, as well as U.S. 63/412 in Portia. In Stone County, multiple fire departments were reported to have battled a wildfire on Highway 58 (Guion Road) near Highway 14 East. In Oxford a fire was reported along Highway 19, Franklin Firefighters responded to the blaze.
In Oregon County firefighters were called to a fire in the Myrtle area, the fire was located between County Roads 258 and 261.
In Douglas County, a fire was reported near Squires, south of Ava, along the Douglas and Ozark County line. Residents along State Highway N between County Roads 325 and 333 were asked to evacuate immediately. Those living on County Roads 349 and 352 were also asked to leave due to the growing wildfire.
In Howell County, a fire was reported west of Highway 63 and south of County Road 2720. A fire was also reported on south Highway 17 off County Road 9180.
In Texas County, The Licking Fire Department issued an evacuation order for residents west of Licking along Highway 32 due to a rapidly advancing fire.
Burn bans are in place throughout the listening area, so please no outdoor burning and please do not throw lit cigarette buts out your vehicle window.
