
Earlier this month, a Phelps County jury delivered a guilty verdict in the case of 60-year-old Nick Owens of Sparta, Missouri. Owens was convicted of Murder in the Second Degree, with the Jury declaring a 25-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections, and Armed Criminal Action, with the Jury declaring a 15-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
This verdict stems from the June 1, 2022, murder of Zachery Owens, which occurred south of Mansfield, Missouri. Due to a change of venue request, the trial was moved from Wright County to Phelps County.
Judge Begers of the 25th Judicial Circuit is scheduled to issue the official sentencing ruling in April, pending the completion of a sentencing assessment report by Probation and Parole.
