Michael Barton was arrested after an investigation by the MSHP Division of Drug and Crime Control. A search warrant was served on Friday at Barton’s home, where they allegedly found guns that matched the guns on a list of missing firearms from the Sheriff’s Office. The guns and two vehicles were seized along with electronic equipment. Barton is charged with two counts of stealing firearms and two counts of stealing $750 or more. Earlier in the week, the former Ripley County Chief Deputy, Charles Mays, was arrested on similar charges.
