Bank Employee steals money from accounts in Pocahontas

An employee at First National Bank of Commerce in Pocahontas has been arrested for allegedly taking money from people’s accounts. Heather Pankey is charged with felony theft of property, felony forgery, felony financial identity fraud, and felony computer fraud. Officials say red flags went up when a transaction was initiated on a deceased customer’s account. The total amount taken, according to investigators, exceeded $241,900. Pocahontas police arrested Pankey and booked her into the Randolph County Detention Center at 10:57 a.m. Wednesday, April 23.
