The Shannon County Sheriff’s Office reports that the Birch Tree Elementary School was placed on temporary lockdown on Monday. Shannon County Central Dispatch received a call reporting a volatile situation approximately one mile from Birch Tree Elementary School. In response, the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office Central Dispatch deployed deputies and I to the scene, and the School Resource Officer (SRO) and school staff were immediately notified. As a precautionary measure, the school was placed on lockdown. The Sheriff’s Office reports that out of respect for the ongoing investigation and to maintain its integrity, no further details will be released at this time. The safety of the children remains their highest priority. The lockdown was lifted, and normal operations resumed.
