On Tuesday, Mayor Donna Martin posted a message on social media to inform citizens about what the Council discussed.
A Message from your Mayor:
In order to maintain my promise of transparency to you all, the great citizens of Thayer, I want to inform you of some recent issues that have come to light in our City.
In the recent May 17 Emergency Closed Council meeting the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to contact an independent Auditor to begin auditing the City records to catch up several past years that had not been audited.
Please bear with us and understand that this will take time as we work to bring everything into compliance with the State of Missouri, and most importantly the citizens of Thayer.
As your new Mayor I will work diligently with the City Officials you have elected to bring you information and share the full audit reports as they are available.
I also want to let you know that the City Staff is working very hard, and I am very pleased with their response and desire to correct and maintain City Business in compliance with State requirements.
As mayor, I will work to see that our employees are appropriately educated and trained with respect to Missouri Statutes in addition to training from the Missouri Municipal League.
